Employment Advise: Should I disclose my disability?
Disclosing a disability is a complex personal decision. There are various reasons to disclose, including an employee's need for modifications to function efficiently in the workplace.
You are not required to disclose full details of your disability if it will not impact your ability to do the job. If you plan to disclose, know the pros and cons of when you decide disclosure timing. Most employers hire based on abilities. Therefore, it is critical to know your strengths and to market your skills and abilities. Focus on your accomplishments. Practice disclosure statements with someone you trust, negotiating what accommodations will assist you to excel in the workplace.
